Reflect on differences you find between the account of creation in Genesis 1 and the account of creation (and the fall) in Genesis 2-4. What points does each story make about God and His relation to humans?
In the first creation story, God creates each aspect of the world individually. He separates light from dark, water from land and eventually man and woman. In the second creation account, the author focuses specifically on the creation of man, building him from dirt and breathing life into his lungs. Further, God ultimately creates woman from the rib of man. This creation story suggests a more intimate relationship with humans and directly suggests that we were created in God’s image. Overall, I believe that the first creation story emphasizes Gods dominion over the world or universe. On the other hand, the second creation story, as mentioned above, is much more human oriented. As is the case with many sections of the Bible, this could be due to the authors’ conflicting interpretations on what role a God should play in the universe. Given the differences, it is inevitable to see that Gods creations: humans, are a direct relation to him. Finally, it is interesting to wonder how the authors interpretations of the creation story relate to the texts they are based off of. For example, the epic of Gilgamesh shares some similarities with the biblical creation stories, so it is interesting to wonder how the authors generated their interpretations from this piece.
Lucas, I agree with many of the things you have said. I think most importantly, agree that there is a dichotomy between what God had envisioned for humankind and what occurred. As you said, Catholicism is based on the idea that everything is God’s creation and was made in his image. Thus, I think the relationship you speak of between God and us is very important.

Thanks for your post Lucas. I agree with you that Genesis 1 emphasised God’s power. I thought it was interesting that you brought up the conflicting interpretations of the authors of the Bible. As discussed in class, the Bible is a library of books, hence, it is not unexpected that there might be different ideas within the Bible.
