Is this your first time reading the Catechism? What new terms did you learn? What remains unclear? What did you find persuasive (or not)?
This was certainly my first time reading Catechism of the Catholic Church. I don’t necessarily have a huge background and understanding in all of the history within the bible and the church but I’m definitely open to a new understanding and appreciation. I was raised Catholic which included a once weekly class to CCD, but scripture and God was never something I was focus or interested in. Today, my religious beliefs align more with agnostic so I don’t regularly attend mass or pray, but I feel like my openness to Catholicism is greater than its been.
One of the new terms that I learned is Venerates (Page 25, Section 58), which means to regard with great respect. Another is Promulgated (Page 29, Section 75), which means to promote or make widely known. Third is Exegetes (Page 39, Section 119), which means an expounder or textual interpreter.
What remains unclear to me is the question of why God punishes those of mankind? If God created everyone in his likeness and image, then shouldn’t everyone do the right thing always? Yes, I do understand that not everyone is perfect, but I feel like God could have easily just made humans overall better people. If God was so worried about people sinning, why didn’t God just make humanity without sin?
At this moment in time, I do not find anything persuasive. I’m still very skeptical about Catholicism and have yet to see hard factual evidence to support the claims.
